La Quinta Art Celebration: What to Expect & How to Plan Your Visit
Most people plan a desert trip around golf, days by the pool, or a big festival weekend in Indio. Art lovers know there’s another reason to come. Twice a year, the La Quinta Art Celebration fills a lakeside park in the middle of town with original work from artists around the world, plus live music, local food, and mountain views in every direction. Whether you’re a serious collector or just looking for a great way to spend a sunny desert day, here’s what you need to know, and why booking your stay with VARE Properties keeps you close to all of it.
What Is the La Quinta Art Celebration?
The La Quinta Art Celebration is a four-day outdoor fine art show held at La Quinta Civic Center Park. Every exhibitor is selected by a jury, so you get quality craftsmanship from the first booth to the last, and everything you see is original work. Artists come in from all over the country and from overseas, and they stay with their work for the entire show. That’s a big part of what makes this event feel different from walking through a gallery. You can ask how a piece was made, hear what inspired it, and buy it straight from the person who created it.

The show has earned plenty of national attention. Southwest Art Magazine readers voted it their number one favorite outdoor art festival in the 2023 Reader’s Choice Awards, and both 2024 shows landed in the Elite 10 of the Art Fair Source Book.
When Is the Next La Quinta Art Celebration?
The show runs twice a year, once in the fall and once in late winter or early spring. Each edition lasts four days, Thursday through Sunday. Here are the next two dates on the calendar:
- Encore 2026: Thursday, November 12 through Sunday, November 15, 2026
- Spring 2027: Thursday, March 4 through Sunday, March 7, 2027
Encore 2026 is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. Single-day tickets are $25, and a multi-day pass covering all four days is $30. With only a five-dollar difference, the multi-day pass is the easy pick if you’re staying in the area. It gives you the freedom to come back for a second look at a piece you especially love, or to split your visit into two shorter mornings and spend your afternoons by the pool.
Hours and pricing can change from one show to the next, so check the event’s official website for the latest details before you buy.
Where Is the La Quinta Art Celebration Held?
Both shows take place at the La Quinta Civic Center, 78495 Calle Tampico, La Quinta, CA 92253. The park covers 14 acres at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains, and it looks more like a garden than a typical festival ground. Booths are arranged among the palms and along the water, so browsing feels like a relaxed walk through the park. It’s also right in the heart of La Quinta, which makes it easy to pair a morning at the show with lunch, shopping, or a round of golf nearby.
Should You Go in the Fall or the Spring?
You can’t go wrong with either time. Both shows share the same park, the same four-day format, and the same high standard for the art, so the choice mostly comes down to when you’d like to be in the desert.
The fall show, known as Encore, takes place in November as the desert season is getting started. The summer heat has eased, the days are sunny, and it’s a great way to kick off a fall getaway. The spring show arrives in late February or early March, when the valley is in full swing, and it typically hosts a slightly larger group of artists.
If you’re still deciding, our guide to the best time to visit La Quinta breaks down what each season is like.
What Can You Expect at the Show?
The Art
The show features well over 100 artists exhibiting original work across several categories, so there’s a lot of variety from one booth to the next. You’ll come across everything from small pieces that tuck into a carry-on to large statement works made for a living room wall or a backyard garden. That range means there’s something to bring home whether you’re starting a collection or adding to one.
Live Music
Music is part of the experience from the moment the day begins. Southern California musicians perform in three spots around the park: the Amphitheater Stage, the Oasis Lounge, and the Celebration Bistro. It’s a great excuse to grab a seat, rest your feet, and take in the scenery between rounds of browsing.
Food and Drinks
There’s no need to leave the park when you get hungry. The Celebration Bistro serves food from local restaurants, and premium drinks are available throughout the day. Sitting down for lunch with the mountains in front of you is one of the best parts of the visit. And if you’d like to keep the day going with dinner, our La Quinta dining guide is a good place to start.
How Do You Make the Most of Your Visit?
A little planning goes a long way here. The show closes in the afternoon, earlier than a lot of visitors expect, so we recommend arriving close to opening. You’ll get cooler temperatures, softer light for viewing the art, and enough time to see everything without rushing. Even in the cooler months, the desert sun is strong, so bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, and wear shoes you’re comfortable walking in for a few hours.
If you’re shopping for a specific spot at home, write down the dimensions and take a photo of the room before your trip. It makes deciding in the moment much easier. We also suggest walking the entire show once before buying anything big. Make a note of the booths you love, then circle back. With a multi-day pass, you can even sleep on it and return the next morning.
Take time to talk with the artists, too. Learning how a piece was made can change the way you look at it, and you’ll have a story to share whenever someone asks about it. And if you find something you love that’s too large to carry home? Many artists can arrange shipping, so it’s always worth asking.
Where Should You Stay for the La Quinta Art Celebration?
Where you stay shapes the whole weekend. At VARE Properties, our La Quinta vacation rentals keep you close to the park, so getting there early is simple, and so is heading home for a midday break before going back for more. Many of our homes offer several bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a private pool, which gives your group far more room to relax than a hotel can.
Picture starting the morning with coffee on the patio, spending a few hours at the show, and ending the day in the pool while you talk over your favorite pieces. That’s the kind of weekend a rental home makes possible. Golfers visiting during the festival may want to look at our PGA West vacation rentals, where a morning tee time and an afternoon at the art show fit comfortably into the same day.
Both shows land during the busiest stretch of the desert season, so homes for those weekends tend to book early. Reserving ahead gives you the best selection. Book your La Quinta desert escape today!
